Thank you for considering Prince Edward Island (PEI) as your new home. On behalf of Hair Concepts Training Academy, we extend a warm welcome to all newcomers.
PEI is the smallest province located on the East Coast of Canada. With a population of one hundred forty two (142) thousand we are a warm and caring people. We are a community encompassing cities, towns, villages and beautiful rural areas.
Hair Concepts Training Academy (HCTA) was formed in 1990 as a division of The Style Inc. The goal of Hair Concepts Training Academy is to deliver a quality and professional hair training program that will assist individuals who wish to become professional hairstylists.
To provide hairdressing services within PEI, hairdressers must be duly licensed. Hairdressing services include; shampooing, cutting, styling, coloring, permanent wave, straightening, and bleach treatment. Licensing of hairdressers in PEI is the responsibility of the PEI Hairdressers’ Association. If you are a hairdresser in your home country and one of your goals is to become licensed in PEI, we provide the following information to assist you in reaching your goal.
1) If you currently hold a valid hairdressing license from your home country and have supporting documentation such as diplomas and a resume detailing your hairdressing experience, then we suggest you contact the PEI Hairdressers’ Association. The Association will evaluate your licensing documentation and resume and determine if you have the skill level to apply for a hairdressing license for PEI. If you meet the licensing requirements established by the Association, then the Association may issue you a hairdresser license. 2) If you are or recently were licensed to provide hairdressing services in your home country but do not have supporting licensing documentation, or if you do not meet the licensing requirements of the PEI Hairdressers’ Association our services may be of assistance to you. HCTA would be pleased to communicate with you regarding your hairdressing experience. Based on your hairdressing experience HCTA offers the following services to assist you in achieving your goal to become licensed for hairdressing services in PEI:
a) Formal evaluation of your current hairdressing skills in the areas of shampooing, permanent waving, cutting, styling and coloring by completing a practical examination to determine your skill level.
b) Providing you achieve the minimum skill level requirement in the hairdressing skill evaluation examination, HCTA will work with you to develop a detailed plan for support and specialized training in the areas requiring improvement.
c) In the event you do not achieve the minimum skill level requirements in the practical examination, you would be eligible to enroll in the in-school training program or the in-school/mentorship training program.
